Let's talk about mornings. What do you do when you first wake up? The first hour of your day? Well, I always check my phone for messages and end up spending way too much time. I check my WhatsApp, Wechat, Instagram, Snapchat basically every app I have. Before I know it, an hour has passed and I'm still in bed, scrolling through endless posts and messages.
My mom always tells me to start my day differently. She says I should get up, stretch, maybe do some exercise, eat a good breakfast, and then check my phone. But honestly, that sounds like way too much work for someone who's barely awake. The phone is right there, it's easy, and it doesn't require any energy.
The problem is, starting my day on my phone sets the wrong tone. I'm immediately comparing myself to others, seeing all the things I'm missing out on, and getting sucked into drama that doesn't even matter. By the time I finally get out of bed, I'm already feeling behind and stressed, even though the day has barely started.
I've tried putting my phone in another room at night, but I always find a way to get it back. I've tried setting a timer, but I just ignore it. I've tried leaving it on airplane mode, but then I turn it back on because "what if someone needs me?"
I know I need to break this habit. I know starting my day without my phone would be better for my mental health and productivity. But it's so hard when it's become such a natural part of my morning routine. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. Or maybe I'll start small just 10 minutes of phone-free time in the morning. Baby steps, right?
