Sleep Early

Sleep Early

Published: 2021-12-18

Do you sleep late at night and find yourself glued to your bed in the morning? 11pm? 12? 1 in the morning? I try to sleep early but often fail at doing so. I do things last minute at night and after I finish doing everything, I realize it's already way past my bedtime.

My parents tell me I need at least 8 hours of sleep, but I rarely get that. There's always something homework I forgot about, a show I want to finish watching, messages from friends that I need to reply to, or just the feeling that I'm not ready to end my day yet.

The problem is, when I finally do go to sleep late, the next morning is a nightmare. My alarm goes off, and I hit snooze at least three times. My mom has to come in and practically drag me out of bed. I feel groggy, grumpy, and definitely not ready to face the day.

I know I should go to bed earlier. I know I'd feel better in the morning. I know I'd be more focused in school. But knowing and doing are two completely different things. It's like there's a part of my brain that just doesn't want to shut down, even when my body is clearly exhausted.

My parents have tried everything setting a strict bedtime, taking away my phone at night, even offering rewards if I go to sleep on time. But honestly, the best solution I've found is starting my homework earlier and setting a reminder on my phone to start winding down. It's not perfect, but it helps.

I'm still working on it, and I know it's going to take time to build better habits. But I'm trying, and I think that's what matters. Maybe one day I'll be one of those people who actually looks forward to going to bed early!
